Moore’s Original Buffalo and Teriyaki Wing Sauces

We’re kicking off our Week of Wings 7 with a “two-fer” review of Moore’s Wing Sauces – their Original Buffalo and their Asian Teriyaki Wing Sauces.

Week of Wings 7 – Day 1 – Moore’s Original Buffalo and Moore’s Asian Teriyaki Wing Sauces

Moore’s Marinades & Sauces out of Birmingham, Alabama, have a stellar lineup of products that you just may not have heard of yet. Or perhaps you’ve seen them on your grocer’s shelves but were afraid to try them. Don’t be. These Moore’s people know their stuff!

Moore’s Original Marinade was introduced over thirty years ago at a steakhouse in the small Alabama town of Jasper. The original hickory marinade, with a delightfully flavorful taste, quickly became well known throughout Alabama and the South.

Along with their Original Marinade, they have their Teriyaki Marinade – PLUS, five wing sauces – four of which we are featuring in our Week of Wings 7 series here on HotSauceDaily.com.

Moore’s Original Buffalo Wing Sauce

A classic “buffalo sauce” of cayenne sauce and butter. Very mild and delicious. Nice balance of cayenne and butter.

Heat Level: Rated 1.5 out of 5 Stars – Mild yet tangy. Perfect for your next football party. Everyone will love these wings! Mild.

Overall flavor: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Delicious! Just what wings should be for your guests. Spectacular and so good. Try this sauce!

Moore’s Asian Teriyaki Wing Sauce

Sweet and sticky, a dark umami flavor, and a mild heat that tingles the mouth. Marilyn says the heat is kicked up at about a level 2 for her. The red pepper flake profile is strong.

Overall, there’s nothing out of place here. It’s very sweet, dark, sticky and umami.

Heat Level:Rated 2 out of 5 Stars – Very spicy, dark and delicious! – huge favorite.

Overall flavor: Rated 5 out of 5 Stars – Our top rating! This sauce is the best grocery store teriyaki wing sauce we’ve ever had! – Amazing.

Island Sauce Company Datil Pepper Sauce

We love the Datil Pepper sauce profile, and Island Sauce Company’s version is packed full of the Datil pepper flavor. It’s also very unique in that it’s a very thin sauce – almost like a glaze.

Island Sauce Company Datil Sauce Label

Datil Pepper Sauce from Island Sauce Company

Creator Patricia Wilsher Bunting tells us a “glaze” style sauce is exactly how she envisioned it to be.

Heat: Rated 2.5 out of 5 Stars – The natural heat from the Datil peppers has been cut back with the other ingredients. This is a mild – medium sauce.

Overall: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – We wish is was a thicker sauce.

Ingredients: Distilled vinegar, tomato concentrate (sugar, vinegar, salt, onion powder, spice, natural flavors), orange peel concentrate (high fructose corn syrup, orange peel, orange juice from concentrate, sugar, citric acid, pectin, potassium citrate), brown sugar (white sugar with molasses), mustard (water, mustard seed, vinegar, salt, white wine), honey, fresh Datil peppers, lime juice from concentrate, lemon zest and spices.

Island Sauce Datil Sauce sample

Texture & Appearance: This bright red sauce is indeed very thin. Great for dipping into, or drizzling onto foods. Useful.

Taste Straight Up: A huge Datil pepper flavor is first and foremost. The sweetness from the sugars and citrus comes in next. Sweet and delicious.

Heat Level: Datil peppers can be hot amongst themselves, but this sauce tempers the heat enough for it to be enjoyable. Mild-medium.

Label/Graphics: Simplistic graphics. I find these to be friendly and inviting, and somewhat mysterious… you never know what you’re going to get when the label is cartoon-y. Friendly.

Wings with Island Sauce Co Datil Sauce

Taste on food:

We cooked up some crispy wings to try with this sauce. Deep fried wings using our Wings 101 recipe were tossed with the Island Sauce Company’s Datil Pepper Sauce. They came out hot and spicy with some great Datil pepper flavor!

Final Thoughts

We liked this sauce enough to purchase 2 more bottles along with their Smokin’ Mango Sauce.

If you’ve never tried a Datil Pepper sauce, this is a great one to start with. Big flavor, nice heat, and quality ingredients are good reasons to go with Island Sauce Company’s Datil Pepper Sauce.

Patty tells us the sauce is also great on these foods:

  • seafood, steak, chicken
  • chili, breakfast burritos and tacos
