Peppers at the Beach 2011 Day 3 – Wrap Up

Peppers at the Beach ended with a whimper on Sunday, as only a handful of vendors returned for the last day. The crowd turn-out was moderate, but it was anticlimactic. Also, our good friends Al “Buddah” and Scott Roberts had to head out very early to make their way home. We had a great time all weekend. Enjoy our pics.

The Girls of Peppers:

We’d like to thank all the staff at Peppers for a great weekend. These girls know their “hot stuff” and were just the best hosts.

Peppers at the Beach 2011 Day 1

Peppers at the Beach 2011 kicks off

Day 1 began a little slow, with vendors arriving between 9:30 and 10:30 am. We arrived about 10:15 and promptly began setting up our bloggers booth. After we got the internet set up, we began live podcasting via with 2-3 minute updates throughout the morning. You can visit our page on here, or check out our Peppers at the Beach page.

Some of the vendors stopped by to say “hello”, but most all of us were busy just getting set up and underway. A decent crowd of people kept everyone busy, and we noticed a large number of folks exiting the Peppers store with bags of sauces in hand.

Clouds and rain coming

Eventually, the clouds grew heavy, and the rain began steady about 2:30 pm. With no relief in sight, vendors packed up, with hopes that Saturday would be much better – sunny, 70+ degree weather, no wind… we are hoping for a much better day on Saturday.

Here’s a slide show of a few pics we managed to get before the rain came:

In Memoriam Randi Lee Hearn

Randi Lee Hearn 9/16/1954 – 4/10/2011

Randi Lee Hearn will not be the same without Randi. Chip Hearn’s mega-store (the world’s largest collection of hot sauce as noted in the Guinness Book of Records) was really run by Randi. She was the go-to gal.
She knew the store and shelves inside out. “Hey Randi, where is ‘this’ or where is ‘that’… she knew. Give her 2 seconds and she would steer you to the exact location of what you were looking for.

“… she was the general manager of Peppers, her family’s spicy items store in the Midway Galleria in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Chip, Luther and Randi came up with the concept for Peppers while on vacation in Jamaica many years ago when they discovered the great variety of hot sauces available there and sampled dozens of them…”

Randi, you never, ever, steered us wrong. And you were always there with a smile and a sardonic wit.

Our sympathy goes out to Luther, Chip and family, and Christina and the entire staff at
Services and a tribute to her life can be found in her obituary.
God Speed Randi. See you in Heaven. With hot sauce.

With love, Brian and Marilyn

Sport Peppers

Sport Peppers are great sliced on pizza, diced or chopped on sandwiches, or placed whole in cold cut subs or hoagies. But their most famous use is on Chicago Style Hot Dogs.
These small, hot peppers – also called Mississippi Sport Peppers – are sold “pickled” in jars and are a critical ingredient of Chicago Dogs.
