Lucky Dog Hot Sauce Brown Label – Mustard Chipotle

Lucky Dog Brown Label just might be their most approachable sauce yet – especially for the general hot sauce loving public. With a line-up that includes mild, hot and super-hot blends, the Brown Label is their newest release.

Lucky Dog Brown Label – Ridiculously Tasty Mustard Chipotle Hot Sauce

Lucky Dog Hot Sauce’s newest offering called Brown Label also has the amusingly long name of “Ridiculously Tasty Mustard Chipotle Hot Sauce”.

But Lucky Dog can be excused. In our opinion, you can name your sauce anything you want as long as you excel in flavor and taste.

A unique style of medium heat chipotle sauce, with the rich notes of Meco chipotles and a dynamic balance between mustard, chipotle and cumin. Bartlett pear juice and figs add very subtle sweetness, while the creeping heat of the scotch bonnet chile builds in heat in a slow & sneaky way. ~LDHS

And Lucky Dog Hot Sauce Brown Label is already winning awards from all over:

  • 1st Place Pepper Blend – 2015 New York Hot Sauce Expo Screaming Mimi Awards
  • 2nd Place Medium – 2016 Scovie Award Winner
  • Finalist – 2016 Good Food Awards – Pantry Division

The flavor profile is complex, yet the end result is simple and tasty. Deliciously smoky but not overpowering with just a hint of sweetness to balance things out.

Final Thoughts:

Overall: We think we’ve found our newest favorite taco sauce and we think you will love it too.

Scott Zalkind, the creator of Lucky Dog Hot Sauces, has produced a fantastic sauce we like enough to give it 5 Stars. It is our favorite of his 8 sauce line-up… for now. 😉

Our initial impressions

While not our usual thorough review on foods and flavors, the following are our first impressions of Lucky Dog Pink Label. After all, we want to get this Giveaway going!

Texture & Appearance: Slightly pulpy, like a fine apple sauce grind, with a light burnt orange color. Medium thick, it has a nice body and texture. Impressive.

Taste Straight Up: “Sweet, vinegar, peppers, onion, garlic, heat.” – Marilyn’s initial taste. We get the sweet first up. There’s a sharp burn from the habaneros, complemented by the Ghost peppers. I’m not sure what role the serrano peppers play… they probably add some fresh green taste to the habs… but the sweet heat of the Ghost pepper is the real supporting chile here.

The sweetness from the pears and dates are also a big part of the overall flavor profile. A big winner here is the very light applewood smoke from the smoked salt. Sweet and complex.

Heat Level: Rated 3.5 out of 5 Stars 3.5/5 – Very flavorful heat for a sauce that is the 2nd hottest in a line of six sauces. Not near the top at 4 stars, we backed this off to 3.5 stars due to the short lived classic habanero heat. If you like a medium-hot sauce, you’ll appreciate a bump up to the next level of this habanero sauce.

The heat comes in slowly, building up with flavor and filling your mouth with a nice sharp bite. The burn lasts for just bit before fading – leaving you with a light smoky flavor. Hot.

Final Thoughts

Overall Rating: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars 4/5 – Complex and delicious, lightly smoked and quite hot – another winner from Lucky Dog Hot Sauce!

Using smoked salt instead of “liquid smoke flavor”, creator Scott Zalkind found he has more control over the level of smoke in his sauces. Lucky Dog Hot Sauce Pink Label Extra Hot Lightly Smoked Pepper Sauce may just be his best sauce yet! Or (in my opinion) it’s a big “tie” with the Black Label for best of the line, on the hot end.
