Food Blogga – Susan Russo – Food Blog Monday

Susan Russo writes on her own cooking blog, Food Blogga, as well as writing for National Public Radio’s Kitchen Window blog and appears on NPR’s broadcast of Kitchen Window and its podcast.

Susan grew up in Rhode Island, but now resides in San Diego, CA. As a food writer, she’s been featured on NPR’s Kitchen Window blog and podcast.

I decided to highlight her Chicken Chili recipe, since even though it’s Spring in most of the country, it’s still chilly out there! So check out her Chipotle Chicken Chili with Crispy Spiced Tortillas. Looks good!

As Susan says on her About page:

Yes, Food Blogga is Rhode Islandese for Food Blogger.

And she’s just so darn Italian!

Based in Durango, Colorado, these guys have put together a nice blog of their adventures, complete with their own videos.

Dan and Todd took first place with a few other team members in the local Men who Cook for Women who Wine competition…

Blogging since Feb ’08, they’ve recently posted 5 videos so far, including Standing Rib Roast, Drunken Kabobs, Bacon Wrapped Buffalo Salisbury Steak, and Fish Tacos! They also like to include or feature a beer to go with the dishes.

As many of you know Todd and I are working with the local Kiwanis Club organizing the Smokin 4th BBQ competition to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America.  This event starts on Friday the 3rd of July and goes until the fireworks start on the 4th.  The event is really coming together.  We are hoping to get 50 BBQ teams competing and 50 – 75 vendors and booths.  We have a guaranteed purse of $6000 and hope to get that number much higher with more competitors.

Check out and tell the guys Brian from sent you!

Bacon Explosion on

Bacon Explosion – The BBQ Sausage Recipe of all Recipes

Jason and the guys over at have created a monster of a “chub” of bacon, sausage, and bbq. They are a  Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) competition team, Burnt Finger BBQ.  This is their latest artery-clogging invention.

It’s bacon! It’s sausage! It’s MORE bacon! There’s BBQ sauce, BBQ rub. More BBQ sauce.

For anyone who’s ever smoked a “fatty” on their grill, this is the next level.

Here’s how it starts out. A bacon mat with rub sprinkled on:

bacon weave mat

Then there’s sausage & more bacon & rub & bbq sauce in the middle …

This is how it ends up:

finished bacon explosion

Obviously pork is best served by itself, but if you feel the need to make this meat monster into a sandwich, try placing a couple Bacon Explosion slices on a warm Pillsbury’s Grands Biscuit. You’ll reach pork Nirvana is no time flat!

I’ve left out all the  steps and delicious photos, because, bacon lovers, you gotta see this recipe.

Personally, I can’t wait to try it!  Here’s the link:

Update 03/19/09: go to the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival in Des Moines, Iowa and cook over 30 Bacon Explosions!

Taste the Fear – Hot Sauce Blog – Food Blog Monday

Cap’n Bones and his crew of chileheads have a great hot sauce blog going on at .

These guys are serious about their love for hot sauce, and it shows in their reviews.

They write a lot of what they call “Multi Reviews”, where 3 or 4 members write their reviews on a given hot sauce in the same post. It’s very interesting to read the different takes on the same product. Or should I say “see” the different reations… as in their videos.
