Michelada Cocktail recipe

by Brian Meagher : 05/05/2018

Cinco de Mayo Michelada Cocktail Recipe

This Michelada Cocktail recipe features Dos Equis Cerveza and Clamato Juice (the Preparado version).

A michelada is a Mexican cerveza preparada made with beer, lime juice, and assorted sauces, spices, and peppers. It is served in a chilled, salt-rimmed glass. There are numerous variations of this beverage throughout Mexico and Latin America. Wikipedia

Here’s my version:

You will need:

– 4 ounces Clamato Juice (Preparado version preferred)
– 4 ounces Cerveza (Dos Equis )
– Big splash of Lime Juice
– 4 drops Maggi Seasoning
– 2 or 3 dashes of Worcestershire Sauce
– 2 or 3 dashes of Cholula or other Mexican hot sauce
– kosher salt and chili powder for rimming glass

Directions:

1. Dip glass in lime juice and rim with salt and chili powder mixture
2. Add ice to glass, splash in liquid ingredients
3. Pour in 4 ounces Clamato Juice
4. Season with more chili powder
5. Pour in 4 ounces of Cerveza / beer
6. Stir and enjoy!

I hope you try one of these for yourself, you will love it!

Drink Recipes For Cinco de Mayo 2009

by Brian Meagher : 05/05/2009

The Paloma Cocktail

img_2135_paloma_326x439

After Margaritas, my favorite tequila drink is the Paloma – a refreshing drink made with Tequila Blanca (Silver), grapefruit soda, and a splash of lime juice.

  • 2 oz Tequila (silver)
  • 6 oz grapefruit soda (Squirt, Jarritos)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice

Rim a glass with salt, add ice, tequila, lime juice. Fill with grapefruit juice, garnish with lime slice. I like Jarritos grapefruit soda, found in the Mexican foods section. Or you can use grapefruit juice and club soda.

The Mexicola

The Mexicola couldn’t be easier – it’s a shot of Tequila in your favorite cola. In a rocks glass, add ice, shot of Tequila, fill with cola – I prefer Diet Pepsi. Squeeze in a wedge of lime to finish.

Margarita Straight Up

The Margarita

For a classic Margarita, check out my 3-2-1 Margarita recipe. 3 parts Tequila, 2 parts Cointreau, 1 part lime juice.

Beer Margaritas

For the brave and party adventurous:

  • 2 (12 oz) bottles of your favorite beer (Modelo)
  • 1/2 cup Tequila (chilled)
  • 1/2 cup frozen limeade (thawed)

Rim 4 glasses with salt, add ice. In a pitcher combine beer, limeade and Tequila. Pour into glasses, garnish with lime wedge, serve immediately.

The Michelada

  • 4 (12 oz) bottles beer
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 limes, cut into 4 wedges each
  • Hot sauce (Tabasco)
  • Worcestershire sauce

Combine the salt and chili powder in a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each beer mug and dip into the chili-salt to coat the rim. Squeeze the juice of 4 lime wedges into each mug. Add a lime wedge to the mug and fill with ice. Add 1 bottle of beer, a dash of hot sauce and a dash of Worcestershire sauce and serve immediately.
