Shake and Dump Margarita Recipe – Happy Cinco de Mayo

This is a Bobby Heugel original Margarita recipe

This Margarita Recipe is a game changer. Strong, sour and sweet, it’s strength is in its simplicity. Blanco Tequila, key lime and Persian (typical grocery store type) lime juice, and agave syrup are all you need.

Prior to finding this recipe on Punch, I was a big fan of the 3-2-1 Margarita straight up. This one brings in rocks to the mix. It’s a shake and dump style of mixing.

At 2 parts Tequila to 1 part lime juice and syrup, it makes for a very strong drink – so pick that top shelf Tequila you love so much! And it has to be silver, blanco or plata Tequila. You know, the clear stuff.

I prefer Patrón, Casamigos (George Clooney’s), or Cazadores Tequilas – but any fine silver Tequila will be great here.

If you can’t find Key limes, you might try Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime Juice or just double up on the typical grocery store Persian limes.

Finally, the agave syrup can be found near the sugar in almost all grocery stores now. Look for the Blue Green brand Organic Light Blue Agave Nectar. It’s perfect.

Shake and Dump Margarita – THE RECIPE

  • 2 oz silver Tequila
  • 1/4 oz lime juice – typically 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 oz Key lime juice – usually 1 whole Key lime
  • 1/2 oz Agave syrup

Combine in shaker with ice, shake well, dump into a rocks glass rimmed with salt.

Pro tip – use good sea salt. I prefer Maldon Flaked sea salt that I’ve ground into a finer mix.
