Luckys Popcorn Dressing Jalapeno with Garlic Hot Sauce – Review
Lucky’s Popcorn Dressing is quite an odd name for a hot sauce company. We’ve received a few products from them for review – and first up is their Jalapeno with Garlic Hot Sauce.
With its bright green color, there’s no doubt this is purely jalapeno but with a twist – there are a lot of garlic bits floating about. We tried this sauce on eggs, pizza, and straight up.
Ingredients:
jalapeno peppers, vinegar, garlic and salt
Texture & Appearance:
Brian: – a thin, runny sauce that holds bits of garlic and peppers, it pours quickly. I wish it was thicker.
Marilyn: – too runny for me too. I’d call the color more of a muddy green, or camouflage.
Taste Straight Up:
Brian: – Marilyn nailed it. It tastes like pureed jalapeno slices in vinegar. It could be so much better if it were thicker, and a bit sweeter.
Marilyn: -As Brian so astutely noted, I nailed it! I’m sure you’ve all had the pickled jalapeno slices, and that was my first impression. This is hotter than most jalapeno based sauce, probably from the added heat of the garlic. If you’ve ever bitten on a piece of raw garlic, you know it brings its own heat. It’s also quite vinegary.
Heat Level:
Brian: – This tastes just like it looks to me – a bright, hot, jalapeno heat. It really does bring it on with heat and flavor.
Marilyn: – I find it to be hotter than Brian does. Aside from the thinness, I think it’s one of the best jalapeno sauces with tons of flavor.
Label/Graphics:
Brian: – the bottle proudly sports a “Minnesota Grown” sticker on top of a clear label with plain black lettering. Extremely simple design. No logo, which I think would help with the identity – however, “Lucky’s Hot Sauce” is pretty straightforward.
Marilyn: – the clear label really shows off what’s in the bottle. I’d like to see some color in the label, not just all black letters. Also, the nutrition info is very tiny and hard to read.
Overall Rating (Taste on Food, Final Thoughts):
Brian: – for effort. I enjoyed this sauce on my eggs. It was too runny for the pizza taste test. A big hit of jalapeno heat, and the garlic is not overpowering.
Marilyn: – too vinegary for me, so it has limited applications. I agree with Brian that it would be nice if it were a thicker sauce. A little agave nector for sweetness wouldn’t hurt

Good, healthy breakfast pictured above.;-) I’m not a fan of green jalapeno sauce on my eggs. I’d prefer something with a little more bite to it, like a cayenne sauce.
What’s that orange sauce on the potatoes – another Lucky’s product, perhaps?
It is indeed another Lucky’s product. To be revealed later. 🙂
Jalapeno..Death Sauce with Tequila..Fresh jalapeno shallots tomatillos garlic lime juice all topped off..with blue agave tequila!!!!!!!!..
Marilyn and Brian,
Thanks for the review. Since I use no suspension ingredients or thickeners, the sauces need to be shaken well before each use, but I’m pretty sure you did that.
Balancing the acidity with the peppers and garlic according to FDA rules is tricky. Also, thinner walled peppers tend to make a runnier sauce.
It’s been an intresting process to try to gather all the knowledge to make an acceptable product. Work in progress I would say.
Thanks again.
