Fast Food Wings Roundup for Week of Wings 3

Week of Wings III – Day 7 – Fast Food Wings Roundup

Here’s our take on Popeye’s Spicy Wings, KFC’s Dry Hot Wings (both breaded and fried, no sauce), and Pizza Hut’s and Domino’s versions of hot wings (both of which are baked then tossed in sauce).

This is our final post for our Week of Wings 3. If you haven’t made any wings, or want someone else to do the cooking for you, we’ve tried several of the fast food wings available in our area, and hopefully yours, to help you find the best choice to satisfy your hot wing craving without all the messy and time-consuming work…or the smell of grease and the messy cleanup that you’ll have to deal with. (Disregard if you’re a hardcore griller and don’t mind standing in the snow for 30-45 minutes tending to the grill, or you have a killer exhaust system in your kitchen, which we do NOT have, sadly).

Jerk Lokia Ghost Chile Jamaican Jerk Sauce Wings

Week of Wings III – Day 5 – Jerk Lokia Wings

From Chad Lowcock’s Race City Sauce Works comes this Ghost Chile Jamaican Jerk Sauce that is full of flavor and lots of heat. We marinated our wings in 1/4 cup of the sauce the night before, then grilled them and sauced them right on the grill. The result was a spectacular flavor in a jerk wing, with a big ghost pepper bite. A bit more searing heat than I’m used to in a jerk sauce, and quite a bit more than Marilyn prefers. But, the heat is short lived and the flavor is so big that it’s all worth it.

Grocery Store Wing Sauces

Week of Wings III – Day 4 – Grocery Store Wing Sauces

While there are dozens and dozens of choices of “ready to use” Wing Sauces available from your local grocery store, we picked two, almost at random, for this review – Anchor Bar’s Original Wing Sauce Medium, and Budweiser’s Hot Wing Sauce.

Frank & Teressa’s Original Anchor Bar Buffalo Wing Sauce – Medium Recipe

First up is the venerable Anchor Bar’s Wing Sauce Medium. Most everyone knows that the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, is the birthplace of the “buffalo wing”.

Smoke Grilled Mustard BBQ Wings Video with Country Chef Grilling Sauce

Week of Wings III – Day 3 – Smoke Grilled Mustard Wings with Country Chef Grilling Sauce Mustard

mustard grilled wings

Update: 2015.07.02Happy 4th of July!

Wings, grilled and slathered in a bbq sauce are a classic backyard recipe for celebrating the Fourth of July! Simply substitute your favorite mustard-based BBQ sauce – mop on generously, and enjoy a new and different tangy take on grilled wings.

The mustard based BBQ sauce will add some new zing to your wings, and taste delicious. And for those new to this “game”, the wings will NOT taste like mustard. Rather they well be tangy, zingy, vingegary, and savory. You’ll be surprised!

(This original post featured the Country Chef Grilling Sauce Mustard, but any mustard-based sauce will wow your taste buds!)

What are smoke grilled wings? It’s simple, you are slowly grilling your wings with the addition of smoke by adding chips or chunks of your favorite wood. Not only do these wings work great with your everyday buffalo style sauces, but this method excels when coating your wings with any barbecue sauces.

In this case, we are using a superb mustard based BBQ sauce from Chef Mike Espey’s Country Chef Grilling Sauce line.

We originally created this video for our friend Robyn Medlin and her GrillGirl.com blog.

You will also get a great look at the Craycort Cast Iron Grill Grates for a Weber Kettle in this video. Available for Webers, Big Green Eggs, and Kamado style grills and smokers… our full review of the Craycort will be coming up this Spring.

There are other great mustard based BBQ sauces out there – some better than others. We loved the Country chef Grilling Sauce blend. We also really liked the first mustard based BBQ sauce we tried from Reverend Marvin’s.
