Moe Mountain Hot Sauce Review

by Brian Meagher : 05/04/2015

Moe Mountain Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce

Moe Mountain Hot Sauce is a tomato based Ghost Pepper sauce from Martin Olsen, and his slogan is “it’s kinda hot”.

Let’s see if it really is.

It’s also one of the newest hot sauces to come to market. Made with a blend of natural ingredients like apple cider vinegar, cumin and cocoa powder, and coupled with the famous Bhut Jolokia Pepper (Ghost Pepper), Moe Mountain Hot Sauce brings its own unique flavor to the hot sauce world.

Moe Mountain Hot Sauce Bottles

The Details

Ingredients: tomato puree (water, tomato sauce), apple cider vinegar, modified food starch, salt, cocoa powder, garlic, fresh lemon pulp, ghost peppers, spices (cumin).

Flavor: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Dark, spicy and just slightly hot. This is a kicked up Mexican style sauce with ghost pepper heat. Surprising.

Heat: Rated 2.5 out of 5 Stars – Just about in the middle… the heat burns off quickly leaving the rest of the flavors to linger. Wild n mild.

Texture and appearance: Thick and smooth. The dark color is flecked with bits of spices. Classic.

I would also like to point out that Moe Mountain Hot Sauce is packaged in a 5 ounce bottle (woozie) with a wide mouth. This makes it very easy to pour the sauce out.

On food

We tried Moe Mountain on tacos and pizza for this review.

It was delicious on pizza.

But it excelled on tacos. This is a fiery taco sauce that is thick and rich.

Final thoughts

This is a great entry-level Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) sauce.

Coupled with some spices that include cumin, it would also be great splashed onto a bowl of chili. Don’t forget the onions and cheddar cheese.

Overall Rating: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Big, bold and delicious! Versatile as a medium-thick sauce on all foods that can stand up to a big flavor. Winner.

Food Blog Monday: Mangos Chili and Z

by Brian Meagher : 01/17/2011

I haven’t done a Food Blog Monday post in awhile, but this blog impressed me so much I wanted to share it with you.

Mangos Chili and Z is written by Lea Ann Brown. She brings a great voice to the Colorado community with beautiful pictures and insightful recipes and reviews.

One recent spicy recipe of hers is her Buffalo Shrimp and Blue Cheese Appetizer. Incredibly simple and so easy to make, these little fiery shrimps are delicious. Here’s a pic of our finished shrimps. (Thanks Emeril.)

While Lea Ann made her buffalo shrimp with Sticky Brand Sauces’ Hot Jolokia BBQ sauce, we had a bottle of Satan’s Rage Ghost Pepper Sauce on hand. Hot stuff!

We also made a batch of the shrimp with Frank’s RedHot Wings Hot Buffalo sauce… for comparison. Also delicious and very easy to find at your grocers.

Here is the link to Lea Ann’s Buffalo Wing style shrimp recipe:

We prefer our own blue cheese recipe:
http://hotsaucedaily.com/2009/10/13/blue-cheese-dip-homemade/

She also makes homemade English Muffins:

And she makes guacamole:

Check out Lea Ann’s Mangos Chili and Z blog for the recipe for these easy appetizers and tell her Brian from HotSauceDaily.com sent you.

B More Nutz Nutterz Review

by Marilyn Meagher : 01/04/2011

We recently opened a few bags of B More Nutz potato chip coated peanuts called Nutterz to bring you this review of a great spicy snack.

Dick Taylor, founder and president of B More Nutz (outside Baltimore, or Bawlmer, hon), has brought an amazing new food concept to the USA. Inspired by the snacks he enjoyed on his pub crawls in Scandinavia, he has created an extensive line of potato chip coated peanuts, called Nutterz. These are so addictive, with so much flavor (and some heat, depending on which one you select) that I’ve eaten about a quarter of a bag, just now, in the name of research. (Ah, the sacrifices we make!)

With flavor profiles ranging from savory regional flavors (Crab Flavor, reminiscent of Old Bay), to Bacon Cheddar (one of the best sellers), Nuclear (too hot for me), and my personal favorite, Jalapeno Cheddar, he has brought an incredibly crunchy, “OMG, these are so good” bar/football party/hang out with your buddies/pop in your mouth snack foods. Not greasy like potato chips, not too salty like some nuts, I cannot say enough good things about Nutterz. Sold in 9 oz. resealable bags or 5 lb Party Pails, these are sure to start popping up in bars and living rooms across the country.

I was curious as to how these wonderful things are actually created. Here’s the info from his website, bmorenutz.com:

We take a whole peanut, skin on, and coat it with potato batter—then fry it briefly in 100% pure peanut oil to give it a crispy shell. Seasonings from all-natural sources are added to give each Nutterz a unique flavor. Unlike potato chips, these won’t go stale… and we’ve never kept them around long enough anyway.

Until I read this, I hadn’t realized the skins were left on the peanuts.( I never liked the “paper” found on regular Spanish peanuts). They are so light and crunchy, savory and yes, addictive. Believe me when I say you must try these. Go to www.bmorenutz.com, or www.peppers.com, to place your order. Get a few bags because they go fast!

Texture & Appearance: Rated 5 out of 5 Stars – I love the texture – a crisp crunchy coating on the outside complemented by the softer peanut inside.

Taste: Rated 4.5 out of 5 Stars – savory, spicy, salty, lots of levels of flavors

Heat Level: Rated 3 out of 5 Stars – varies with flavor chosen, but none are without some heat.

Label/Graphics: Rated 4.5 out of 5 Stars – great attention-grabbing graphics, superior packaging in a well-made foil bag with closures.

Overall Rating: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Great flavors, satisfying texture, and spicy profile make these a “must have onhand” at our house!

Ingredients: peanuts, potato starch, sugar, flour, peanut oil, corn meal, egg whites, salt, sodium bicarbonate, cheese powder (pasturized milk, salt, cheese cultures, enzymes), whey, maltodextrin, sugar, msg, onion and garlic, citric acid, oleoresin, parika, soybean oil
