Rippin Red Forbidden Angel hot sauce review

forbidden-angel-post

Rippin’ Red Sauce Company launched their flagship wing sauces in 2010 with an “original” and a “hot” version. Both are stellar wing sauces that please everyone who tries them. Our reviews are here. Creator John Rizzotti is a dear friend that just astounds people with his creative recipes and solid wing sauces. John is always a hit at the shows he vends at – tempting visitors with delicious wings, created with his sauces and a variety of spices and presentations.

The Fusion Revolution has begun! Our sauces are made using inspired custom crafted recipes. …ingredients to the bare minimum … This “Fusion” of only the best creates a taste that staggers the senses.

Having said that, Rippin’ Red’s first hot sauce, the newly launched Forbidden Angel – a red habanero based hot sauce – falls on the far side of the heat and flavor scales, at least when compared to their wing sauces. It is big on both flavor and heat, but in this case the heat trumps the flavor. Forbidden Angel has a classic habanero sting to it.

Ingredients: guava nectar, red habanero peppers, onions, lime juice, pumpkin, distilled vinegar, garlic, soybean oil.

Texture & Appearance: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Slightly chunky and thick, Forbidden Angel sports a burnt orange color that is consistent with habanero sauces. It looks delicious and inviting. A beautiful looking sauce.

Taste Straight Up: Rated 3 out of 5 Stars – Wow. The burst of flavor is big and fills your mouth immediately. Then. It. Burns. Yep, with that classic habanero sting that lingers. All the delicious flavor gets quickly overwhelmed with the heat.

Heat Level: Rated 4 out of 5 Stars – Forbidden Angel has a big, hot habanero kick.

Label/Graphics:Rated 5 out of 5 Stars – The newly redesigned logo and label for Forbidden Angel is sharp, clean and clear. Black, white and red, the message is clear, and the fonts perfect! Kudos to Rippin’ Red for nailing a look that is timeless. I hope to see more of this look in the future for Rippin’ Red.

Overall Rating (Taste on Food, Final Thoughts): Rated 3 out of 5 Stars – I tried this on some popcorn fish bites and some cheese nachos. The sauce overwhelmed the fish bites, but was really good on the nachos.

... better on nachos.
… better on nachos.

We’ll finish up with a nice close-up of Forbidden Angel on some melty nachos…

  1. I bet this would be good worked into a cheese sauce for nachos, that would tame the heat but not wipe it out.

  2. I mixed up some tuna with mayo, and added a healthy splash of Forbidden Angel, and it was awesome! I think this is one of those sauces that is best “mixed in” instead of “poured on”. Great flavors, and yes a ton of heat, but tamed down in the mix delivered a winner, in my opinion. Yes Chris , I think you are onto something there!
