Pickapeppa Hot Red Pepper Sauce

Pickapeppa Hot Sauce

Probably my favorite imported hot sauce. Made in Jamaica, it contains cane vinegar, which gives it a sweetness along with some pretty searing heat.

From the label:

The Pickapeppa Company Ltd was established in 1921. Over the years it has won a number of awards both nationally and internationally to attest to its high quality and consistency of flavor. Pickapeppa products are aged in oak barrels for a minimum of one year. They contain only the finest tropical fruit and spices from all over the world.

Ingredents: hot peppers, cane vinegar, sugar, salt, and spices

  1. Gotta love Jamaican hot sauces. Good stuff. I’m doing a series on hot sauce also, although I don’t know if I’d have the attention span to do an entire blog on the stuff. Good luck with it.

  2. I can’t stand this “hot” sauce. It’s disgustingly sweet and not very hot. Tastes more like ketchup than hot sauce. And it has very mild heat – perhaps 6/10. So many better hot sauces out there than to bother with this crud.

That said, I’m a huge fan of Pickappepa Sauce and highly recommend that.

  3. I find this hot sauce very satisfying because of its mid heat range. I like to taste my food with a little spice and not drown it out with a ferocios fire sauce. This sauce has depth to it from its other spices unlike other “Hot Sauces” that drown out your food with superficial heat. If you can’t cook, buy a fire sauce, otherwise use this sauce for a mellow flavoring that is sure to please even the most discriminate palat
